On Wednesday, Oct 22nd, I headed for the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minnesota with my mom and a busload of other people after dropping the dogs off at Barala Kennels in Winnipeg and arranging for Angela (my daughter) to come over to look after Jewel and the fish. It was a drizzling rain and the bus was 45 minutes late in picking us up, but after that we were on our way and we arrived at the Shooting Star in good time.
It rained all the way there and for the rest of the day and night, but Thursday morning the sun came out and Thursday turned out to be a very nice day. I walked around the casino (outside), walked over to a new little department store nearby – you can see it’s sign behind the casino sign – and then over to the dollar store. Then I went back to gambling since it was double points day. 🙂
I figured out how much I could afford to lose and only carried that amount of money with me, always hoping – of course that I would go home with more money than I arrived with. Instead of winning or losing, I ended up coming home with just about the same amount of money that I started the trip with. I don’t think that is too bad after 3 days of gambling.
The trip home on Friday was fairly uneventful – the bus was on time and my mom won 2 of the bingo games. The movie (Bewitched) ended just as the bus pulled into the parking lot where I had left my car.
Jewel was happy to see me back home and on Saturday morning I picked the dogs up at the kennel, who were pretty excited to see me too.
Dakota had scraped the top of her nose raw by jamming it through the holes in the chain link kennel door. She has done this before, but this time her nose is really quite pink and sore looking.
Chester was fine, other than having a 20 minute pee when we got back to our yard.
Another thing I noticed when I got home was that my Christmas Cactus was now blooming. I guess it will be finished blooming by Christmas.
I took the dogs for a walk and while walking along the river, I could see that it was raining on the other side of the river, even though the sky was blue and the sun was shining on my side of the river. I had my cell phone in my pocket, so I snapped a picture of that sight.
