European Vacation – Rome to Pisa to Forte Dei Marmi

We packed up a nice dry tent this morning and were on our way north, after a slight detour due to getting lost in Rome while trying to find the highway.

It was a beautiful sunny day – but very hot. We drove along the beaches again today and they looked so inviting.  The water and sand were so beautiful.  On the other side we saw the hills with mountain in the background so there was beauty no matter which way we looked.

We found out that we should have filled the car with gas in the morning.  When we stopped in the afternoon, everything was closed.  It makes sense – everything shuts down in the afternoon due to the heat, but we just were not used to that.  Luckily, we weren’t too far from Pisa and we had enough gas to get there

You would think that there would be lots of signs pointing to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but there wasn’t.  Luckily we found it anyway.  We took some pictures and then climbed all the way to the top and took some more.  For some reason, I’ve only got one picture of it though.

The street was lined with souvenir shops and we wandered around there for awhile before heading out to get gas and find a camp site.  We found a big one with a nice restaurant at Forte Die Marmi which is a little further north from Pisa.

For pictures today, I have one that I took along with a postcard that give some of the details about the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Today was Wednesday July 9, 1975 and we traveled 240 km.
