After breakfast today, we decided to go for a drive in the Dutch countryside, since everything we had seen up to now has been from the freeways.
We headed first to Marken, where people still dress in the traditional Dutch clothing and many even wear wooden shoes. It was very quiet and peaceful there, but I found out when I tried to take pictures that they did not appreciate it. Other tourists did not mind, but the residents were not happy. I did get a couple of pictures though. I remember stopping to pet some goats in one yard too.
Then we headed back over the same dyke we had driven over before and down a different country road to head back to Amsterdam. We noticed that the fields did not have fences here – just water filled ditches to separate them.
We were held up for about an hour on this road when a car started on fire ahead of us, blocking the road. When we got back to our motel, we asked to book one more night for just Karen and I, but they were full.
For pictures today, we have a bit of the countryside and a few in Marken.
This lady was ok with the picture, but wouldn’t look at the camera.
