Canada Geese and Goslings

I was surprised to find Canada Geese and some pretty large goslings on my walk along the Red River with Chester the other day.  I hadn’t even seen much of the geese in the area and hadn’t even seen any fluffy little babies (other than at the zoo).  We came upon 3 sets of parents and their babies at once.  We had walked a little further than our normal walk and they were right on shore until we came up, but as you can see in the first picture, they moved into the water very quickly.

You can see that this wasn’t a smooth entry into the water – although we were some distance away and up on the bank.

They’ve calmed down a bit here.

Now they are quite content and after looking at the picture, I was surprised to see a Wood Duck right there with them too.

This picture is cropped from the earlier one where I mentioned the Wood Duck – just thought I’d show it a little closer – this is the female.

I’m really surprised the goslings got so big without me even seeing them until this day.
