I’ve got a mystery bird today. Its been awhile since I’ve been unable to identify one. Its yellow.
There are American Goldfinch along the riverbank, but I can easily recognize the male, and the females are duller but otherwise resemble this bird. This bird sings though and the females should be nesting now and not singing. I’m not sure if the females sing anyway – I think they mainly chirp. It is the size of a warbler – about 5 inches or so.
The bird was a long way away from me and I had to zoom a lot to get these pictures – so they are not as clear as I would have liked. He was facing me the whole time, so I did not get a look at his back. The little bit we can see looks like a plain olive colour though.
It was very bright and sunny out. We’re not used to seeing the sun this year.
Here are the pictures. If you can help ID this little bird, I would appreciate it. He was busy preening in between his songs.
