The Butterfly Garden at the Assiniboine Park Zoo now has a wonderful selection of butterflies. The one I really loved was the Electric Blue Butterfly and it is absolutely gorgeous. This shade of blue just happens to be my favourite colour. 🙂
Last year they just had Monarchs and Painted Lady butterflies and as promised, they have plenty more now. Since you can not go in a circle at the zoo now because of all the construction, I went through the exhibit twice and it was my second trip when the Electric Blue butterflies were active. I did see one on my first trip, but he had his wings closed with no blue showing at all.
They are much bigger than the other butterflies.
I chased one around for a long time before I could get a decent picture, but he finally stopped and posed for me. 🙂 I didn’t actually chase him – I stood in one spot and tried to follow him with the camera.
The first picture was taken on my first trip through the butterfly garden and he didn’t move the whole time I was there,
The best shot I could get of him flying.
The above picture was taken from a distance and was cropped and the one below was taken from closer and zoomed in more and is full frame.
So far on Africam today, we have seen our Cheetah Salome and her cubs, Warthog, Hamerkop, Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Waterbuck, Leopard, Elephant, Nyala, Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Wildebeest, Black Eagle and chick, and Bushbuck. Click here to see all of today’s pictures.
