Life goes on.  Not much has been happening lately and I haven’t seen any birds or other wildlife while walking Chester along the Red River.  I can hear several birds singing, but they all seem to be deep in the leaves of trees or hidden in the tall grass and weeds on the bank.

This means I get to write about little odds and ends, that don’t normally get into my entries here.

The weather – wow what a heat wave!  It has been into the 30’s C for the last couple of weeks now and very humid, which raises the ‘feels like’ temperature.  We did have rain on Wednesday, but not enough.  Not too long ago (last month), I was complaining about the never-ending rain and now everything is very dry after all this heat.  As long as I have air conditioning to work and sleep in, I do love the heat though.

Work – we’re into the summer programming now and as always, the Y is a very busy place.  Day camp is in full swing with over 100 children, plus counselors and volunteers coming and going all day long.  The kids and the counselors are all exhausted by the end of the day.  The summer swimming lessons are full, but so far there is still room to register in the day camp for August.

Chester – can’t do an update post without mentioning Chester.  🙂  He is still doing great – 113 days since his last seizure.  He is happy and active and has lost most of the weight that he put on when he got started on the meds last year.

Jewel – as usual, she is happy and healthy.  As I write, she is digging into her breakfast and making yum, yum comments so I guess she is enjoying it.  🙂  She is getting used to the new cat, Kitty – but I’m still keeping an eye on him if he stares at her too much.  He’s learning, but he’ll probably just get the idea completely when its time to go back to his owner.

The cats –  Cyrus is still the cuddling, purring kitty he has always been and he gets along with everyone.  Craven isn’t happy having Kitty in the house and the 2 of them are often found having a mini battle.  There doesn’t seem to be any damage – just noise most of the time.  They may just begin to work things out when its time to send Kitty back home too.

So far on Africam today, we have seen Lions, Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Impala, Waterbuck, Nyala, Egyptian Goose, Grey Heron, Black Eagle and chick and our Cheetah Salome with her cubs.  Click here to see all of today’s pictures.
