The Crow

Crows and Ravens are both really interesting birds.  We don’t often see Ravens in the city here though, so Crows are often what I see and sometimes what I can get a picture of.   Anything that is all black is difficult to get a picture of though.

I had one perch in a tree by the Red River yesterday when Chester and I took our walk and managed to get one picture that is fairly decent.

A pair of crows raised a family near here this year.  There are 4 young ones who are still sometimes begging their parents for food, but have now also figured out how to eat on their own.   I can not tell the parents from the young ones now – other than when I see one feeding another, so I don’t know if this is mom, dad or one of the kids.

These birds will eat anything they can find and are often either being chased by smaller birds after a nest raid or are chasing something larger that dared to enter their territory.  They are entertaining to watch, but can be very loud.

So far on Africam today, we have seen Elephant, Giraffe, Nyala, Impala, Wildebeest, Zebra, Salome, our Cheetah with her cubs, Waterbuck, Warthog, Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Egyptian Geese, Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Common Duiker and Black Eagle and chick.

Yesterday, one of the Cheetah cubs managed to get stuck in a tree.  Cheetahs don’t normally climb trees, but this one has a few easy branches to climb.  Cheetahs do try to get high in order to see further, but this cub climbed a branch that is not sloped.  He cried for help and Salome tried to help him.  Donna took a video of this and you can see it here.  There are several cute and interesting videos to watch there.  🙂
