4 Months

It is the 15th of the month today, which means  Chester has now gone 4 months without a seizure!!!

It is amazing to see him happy and healthy again.  He lost the weight that he put on when he first got started with the meds, but he is still always hungry. He is hunting for bunnies on our walks again (as you know) instead of having his nose to the ground looking for scraps of food.

At first, I was disguising his meds, by putting peanut button on them or pushing them into chunks of wieners, but now they just go on top of his food and he gobbles them down. He gets 5 pills/capsules per meal or 10 per day.  Three of them are for the seizures, one is to prevent damage to his liver from the first ones and the last is for his joints.

The vet told me at the beginning that if he can go for a year without any seizures, we can consider starting to slowly reduce and possibly wean him off them completely.  We’ve still got a long way to go before then, but maybe this will happen one day.  🙂  I may be to scared to try to make any changes though.

I also changed his dog food just around the same time as his last seizure and at this point, I have no intention of making any changes to his diet again – just in case the food has anything to do with helping to control them.  It is a grain-free food called Now/Senior/Large Breed in case you’re interested.

Of course, we have pictures just taken of the boy – but since I made him sit and lie down for them, he doesn’t seem interested in looking at me or the camera.  🙂

So far on Africam today, we have seen Elephant, Wildebeest, Nyala, Bateleur Eagle, Egyptian Geese, and Salome the cheetah with her cubs.  It has been a slow day today, but there is still plenty of time to pick up.  🙂  Click here to see all of today’s pictures.
