As I mentioned yesterday, I said I would show you more of the Queen Victoria sculpture on the Legislative grounds in Winnipeg. The picture I put in yesterday’s post didn’t really show the sculpture, since it was taken at a distance and pretty much looking towards the sun. I zoomed in for some better pictures, including what is behind her chair.
She is holding a sceptre in her right hand and an orb in her left. Behind her (next picture) is St. George, England’s patron saint. What I have read, says that he is crowned with a dove (for peace) and holds a sword to defend and protect.
I can see the sword, but that doesn’t look like a dove on his head. Let’s look zoomed in a bit more.
That looks like a lizard with wings to me, but I do not see anyone else in the sculpture who could be St. George.
We’ll take a look at the Queen again. 🙂
I received a comment from my friend Blue Beard, who answered my questions about St. George.
St George normally has a dragon with him, which is what is on his head in the picture as George is the dragon slayer (with the dragon representing Satan).
We observe St George’s day on April 23rd.
Thanks Blue 🙂
