Although I have only the normal orange tiger lily in my yard (which is beautiful on its own), there are many different colours of this beautiful flower. In my area of the world, the tiger lily flowers in June normally, but some of the larger and fancier ones flower later. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are some that flower earlier also. I have early and late flowering tulips, so why not early and late flowering lilies?
I have pictures of my poor lilies. I say poor because the Red Lily Bug did quite a bit of damage to my plants this year. I pulled of dozens or maybe even hundreds of those bugs, but I couldn’t be watching all the time, so they beat me this year. This is the first year I’d ever seen them, but they sure didn’t start off slowly.
I took some pictures of lilies in a neighbour’s yard to show a couple of different colours but the orange ones are from my yard.
Then there is the Day Lily. I assume (but don’t know for sure) that it is closest to the wild lily, especially the common orange ones. They now come in other colours as well. I took these pictures of day lilies in a neighbour’s yard.
The Day Lilies are not completely open because I took the pictures in the early morning, just as the sun started to shine on them. They open each morning and close each night – which is why they are called Day Lilies. 🙂
