After I typed in the title for today’s blog, I just had a flashback to one of the books that my daughter used to have and that we would read over again and again. 🙂 It was called Catch Up Ketchup. It was about a Monkey named Ketchup, who was always lagging behind and was being told to catch up.
Anyway, I was just going to catch up with the rest of the world here. I have a hard time writing a daily blog at this time of year because there is nothing really going on outside and not much going on around me at all actually.
It is still winter, but the sun is hanging around longer each day and there is still plenty of snow, even with the melting that has been happening. I have heard some birds singing, but haven’t been able to see any sign of birds returning. With about 2-3 feet of snow on the ground, it seems a little early for any birds to return anyway. It may just be our winter residents are getting excited about the longer days.
Chester is still doing great! It has been 7 1/2 months since his last seizure. His wanting to eat everything in sight has caused a few problems. When I started to look at my tax papers, I found out that some of the ones he ate before I blocked him out of the living room when I am not home, were ones that would have come in handy. Speaking of taxes, it looks like I’ll be sending more of my meager wages to the taxman. I have to wait for a couple more items, but I have a several hundred dollars to pay by the looks of things. 😦 I have now asked to have more taken off one of my pension cheques and added more to my RRSP savings, so it should be better next year.
I finally got to the dentist about the tooth I broke while chewing bubble gum last summer in South Africa. I will go back to have a new filling in that tooth this coming Friday. I also finally went to have an eye exam today. It has been 7 years since my last exam and the last pair of glasses that I got. The good news there is that my eyes have hardly changed at all and I do not need new glasses. I can get new ones, if I want – but the minor changes won’t make much of a difference. I did take a look at glasses after seeing him, but decided that it really wasn’t worth the almost $600.00 required to get new ones. I have the prescription and could still change my mind, but with the income taxman wanting around $800.00 this year, I really don’t have an extra $600.00 for new glasses if they are not necessary. I also have an appointment to go back to the eye doctor for another exam to get a baseline for glaucoma.
Yesterday I volunteered with the Adult Day Program and we went to the IMAX threatre where we saw Born to be Wild in 3D. It was a great show. I had seen parts of it, or at least similar to it on tv before but the 3D really added a new dimension. Many of the children in the audience were reaching up to try to touch the animals and a lot of people ducked when a ball came our way. 🙂
Things are still changing at the Y, since a new CEO was appointed and new positions opened up – with people moving up and making more openings . Hopefully the dust will settle in the next couple of months and we will know where we all stand. I haven’t applied for anything and do not intend to. This is my retirement job and I don’t see the point in trying to climb up the ladder at this point in my life. I just cheer on the ones who I would like to see move up and feel bad for the ones who wanted to, but have not. I am thrilled that my new boss is Lidia. I have worked with her for many years and I know she will do a great job. She is fair and honest with everyone and all the staff look up to her.
I decided I might as well take a couple of pictures to put in here, so here is one with Chester and I and a couple more of Chester out in the snow today.
Time to head for Africam – see you there.
