I have 2 clumps of Iris in my yard. One is fairly short and flowers earlier than the other, The early ones have now finished flowering and the later, taller ones are now started. I think the flowers on the taller ones are also a bit bigger, but since they are not open at the same time and I have never measured them, I am not sure on that. The tall ones are often blown over if we have a windy day or lots of rain. Luckily they were not open for the hail storm the other day, but they are predicting high winds with the possibility of a thunder storm tomorrow.
I also have one picture of a little Yellow Warbler from along the Red River a couple of days ago when Chester and I had our walk. He only allowed one picture and it is more focused on the branch and leaves than on the little guy, but he is cute anyway. 🙂
Sad news to report is that I saw and killed one Red Lily bug yesterday. I found him on one of the Lilies. I am pretty sure a mixed flower bed is the way to control these guys. Since I did not plant anything last year, that is how they took over, but they have probably been here other years. Once the bedding plants are planted around the Lilies, they either don’t breed or they go dormant until they have the Lilies all to themselves. The trick is to get the bedding plants in as early as possible to prevent much damage. I am still going to monitor this carefully and squish any that I find, but one bug in 4 days doesn’t seem too bad.
It is going to be a beautiful day today, so I’d better get moving on some outdoor chores. After that you can find me on Africam. See you there.
