Bump on a Log

I found one Mallard Duck on Monday when Chester and I took our morning walk along the Red River –  and he was doing his best interpretation of a bump on a log for me.

He was all alone, unless the hen is nearby on eggs.  I guess I haven’t completely given up hope of seeing ducklings, but these ones will be very late.  Maybe something happened to the first clutch of eggs and she laid again.  Or maybe this section of the Red River just won’t have ducklings this year.

I haven’t seen much of the Wood Ducks or any Wood Ducklings this year either.

The next morning I did see his girlfriend and I noticed 2 little bumps on the log beside her.  Without my glasses, I couldn’t tell if the little bumps were future bigger bumps or not, but after looking at the downloaded pictures, I see that these particular bumps won’t be changing in size.

Through Africam or some of the Kruger Facebook pages though, I do get to see plenty of critters and baby critters but its not the same as seeing them in person though.  🙂

Have a great day.
