I know – I walk along the Red River every day. Today’s walk had 3 different critters so I had to just make it a generic title.
First is a singing Sparrow, then a Canada Goose and then a Beaver.
A couple of days ago I wondered if I had seen a Beaver, but the glimpse was much too quick and I was actually looking another way and just saw it out of the corner of my eye as he dove down. I wasn’t sure if it was a duck or a beaver. Today, I saw him swimming ahead of me and we hurried to catch up. I only got one quick picture before he disappeared behind the grasses as he dove down. Chester and I waited, but didn’t see him again.
When I think about it, it is amazing that I ever see anything on these walks. Chester’s vet had asked that we walk shorter distances, due to Chester’s age so we are usually just out for 20-25 minutes. We have to walk a couple of long blocks to get to the river and then a couple of short blocks along the river and then 2 long and 2 short blocks back home. So, most of our walk is along the sidewalks instead of along the river. The 2 short blocks would be approximately 539 feet or 180 yards or .16 km. I may be way out in my calculation – but I know my lot is 120 feet deep so I am assuming the other lots are the same. I would pass by 4 of these lots in the 2 blocks. There are also 2 lanes, which I guess at being 12 feet wide and one street with 2 boulevards which I guess at being 10 feet each for the boulevards and 15 feet for the street. LOL – I don’t usually get into measuring things like this, but got to thinking how much I often see on these short walks and wonder what I would see on longer walks. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise (although it is a disappointment) on the days when I see nothing.
Time for a bit of Africam and then I have lots of chores and errands to look after. Have a great day.
