I have worked at the Y for many years and also volunteered off and on for the Adult Day Club there on my days off work. This last year we decided to make my volunteering official and have me added to the volunteer list so I could accept some of the invitations to events.
This past Sunday was the first Volunteer Appreciation Event since that happened, so I signed myself and my friend up to go to it.
The event was a ride on the Prairie Dog Central, which is a restored steam engine and restored coaches. The train goes from it’s Inkster Station (which is on the outskirts of the city) to Grosse Isle, which is a small community about 20 km outside the city. While in Grosse Isle, we were treated to a wonderful Fall Supper at the Community Centre. Then we got back on the train for the ride back to Winnipeg.
I went straight from work and hadn’t put my camera in my purse before leaving home that morning, so the only picture I took was with my phone. I didn’t even take a picture of my supper.
It was a beautiful day with a bright blue sky (as you can see) and a lot of people stopped their cars to take pictures as we went by, with the engine sending out clouds of smoke and steak as we moved along.
You can find more information on the Prairie Dog Central here.
