Tree Pruning

With the help of my neighbours, we managed to get enough room in front of my house to get the trucks in to do the work on the trees this morning.  They arrived bright and early just as we secured the final spot.

The company I hired is Main Branch Tree Services and I now highly recommend them if you have a need for tree pruning or removal.  I didn’t have any trees removed, but lots of pruning was necessary on some large trees.

I was only concerned about getting the dead branches removed, but Glen was looking at how the tree would look when finished and he showed me some other problems and and explained why they should be looked after too.  For instance a branch going out to one side too far was very heavy and the possibility of it breaking and ripping the side of the tree as it went down was pointed out by Glen.  We talked about removing the branch completely or reducing the weight of it by removing some of the branches from it.  Together we decided to keep the branch and remove the weight.

In the front yard, they expertly pruned 3 trees – an Oak and 2 Ash Trees and in the back yard was my large Elm Tree, where they would just get what they could reach.  To reach it at all, they had to go over the roof of my sun room in the bucket.  My main priority on the Elm were the branches that were brushing the wires coming into the house and the ones brushing on the roof of my house.

Glen was the guy in the bucket and he reached much more than I ever imagined he would.  He got all I wanted and much more, going up and around on the sides.  When his chainsaw wouldn’t reach what he was trying to get, he exchanged it for a smaller chainsaw on a long extension pole.  With that he could reach quite a bit.  He got enough that I don’t think I need to call anyone to finish the back 1/2 of the tree.

Mike and Jesse were the 2 ground workers who removed every twig and branch that hit the ground and put it through the chipper.  Mike was taking the smaller branches and growths from around the trunks on the trees with the chain saw on the extension pole and when he found one that he wanted down because it was dead, he even got up on my ladder to make sure he got it.   While Mike was doing that, Glen got out of his bucket to clean out the eaves on my sun-room because he could see when he was up there that they were plugged with leaves.

My yard was left in better shape when they were gone than it was when they arrived.  Every twig and leaf that came down during the work was removed and the area was swept clean.  They even blew both my lot and my neighbour’s lot clear of leaves because  they loved my neighbour’s baby daughter (who wouldn’t love her – she is adorable).  They did all 3 & 3/4 trees including set-up and clean-up in a about 2 hours.

I took a couple of pictures.  🙂

Jesse was also doing the chipping, but I just snapped a quick succession of pics while Mike was at it.  It was very quick.

It was amazing to watch them work perfectly as a team.  Glen is the boss, but he didn’t have to tell Mike and Jesse what to do – they just did what needed to be done.  Even when Mike was getting up on the ladder – Jesse just went over to hold it for him – just because he knew he should.  They don’t normally use ladders.

The price was exactly what they quoted and they made sure I was completely satisfied before they left.

Thank you to my neighbours Jamie, Josh, Megan and Kaliyah for working on the space in front of the house, for the hot cup of coffee while the men were working and for the extra leaf blowing that was encouraged.  🙂

Thank you to Glen, Mike and Jesse from Main Branch Tree Services for the excellent job.  Well done!

Oh – the squirrels might not be too happy with the job though.  I saw one trying to figure out how to get from one tree to another without having to go down to the ground.  Their treeway has been disrupted.

  1. Whata wonderful workers. Clearing everything up behind them and completing the work in a satisfactory way. Those trees sure looked like they needed them trimmed. As you say the squirrels will be in for a shock when they have to find other ways to get down their trees.
    Pictures are lovely to see.
