The other day when Chester and I were walking along the Red River, I noticed that his right rear foot had kind of a wobble when he walked. I had never noticed this before – but we were walking later than normal and it was light out that morning and I could see better, so it might have been happening for awhile. I then looked up his leg a bit and saw a lump just on the side of his hock. It is about an inch across. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him – no sign of any limp – just that slight wobble as he walks.
I made an appointment at the vet and took him there yesterday to have it looked after. After looking and feeling it, she wanted to take an x-ray. The x-ray showed that it was just fluid, which she said was good, but she wanted to find out what the fluid was, so she took a sample of that to examine. The results of that were inconclusive, so we haven’t learned anything yet.
Now we are going to just watch it over the next few days to see if it changes at all. If it goes down, we can probably just leave it, since it isn’t bothering him. If it gets bigger we may have to remove it. Since it is right on the joint and is fairly large, it will take awhile to heal – so we are not going to rush into it at this time.
If Chester is trying to break my bank account, he’s doing a pretty good job of it.
