The snow and ice are still here, so it looks like the winter has officially started. The temperature is supposed to get above zero today, but the ground is frozen and I don`t think it won’t get warm enough to melt it all.
I took a couple of pictures of the Red River in the dark yesterday when Chester and I had our walk, so that is what we have for pictures today.
There is still lots of open water, but those spots are freezing up quickly. One of the last spots to completely freeze over will be at the bend on the first picture and you can see a much larger open area in that picture. The long skating rink that the city puts on the Red River and the Assiniboine River starting around the Legislative Building to the Forks and then onto the Red River, will come up to the area where the bank is a little more open – just a little to the right of centre in the 2nd picture and will then loop around and back.
I just made a quick map showing the approximate area of the skating rink on google maps and put a yellow mark in the approximate areas where the rink starts and ends – although it does not actually end since it takes a turn at both ends to loop back.
