Texas Time

Every year at about this time I get fed up with the cold and the snow and the wind and feel that it is time to head south to Texas.  I checked google maps a couple of years ago and found that it was a 24 hour drive from Winnipeg to Houston and made a virtual trip there for the weekend.  Of course, there wasn’t enough time in a weekend to actually stay there though.

Last year I thought about doing a house exchange with someone in a warmer climate who would like to experience the cold and snow – but couldn’t find anyone interested in that.

This year I checked out the driving time to Dallas, where I have a friend who has offered me a place to stay.  The driving distance to Dallas is just 20 hours, which give me an 8 hour stay there.  🙂  Then I could add on the hours from the end of Thursday and the beginning of Sunday to increase my stay to 23 hours.

Of course, Donna would be shocked to have me actually show up on her doorstep, but I’m sure I could arrange this now. I would have to go for a few days without sleep, but it will be worth it.

So – if I leave right after work on Thursday I would arrive in Dallas at 1 pm on Friday.  I would not have to leave until noon on Saturday to make it back to Winnipeg and directly to work for my shift on Sunday.

When I leave for work on Thursday, I will have to have my suitcase with shorts, t-shirts and bathing suit and will arrange to have my daughter drop Chester off at work just before the end of my shift.

Goodbye snow – hello Texas sun.

Chester likes snow, but not quite this much.  I’m sure he would enjoy the Texas heat.

Hope you’ve got our room ready Donna!  🙂
