Chester and I had a great walk this morning and saw lots of birds from the Canada Geese flying overhead to the pair of Robins to the Gull on the Red River and then the pair of hawks I saw mating. The only pictures I managed were of the Gull and the Hawks – but not while mating (they took me by surprise).
Not too much left of the hurdle, but still impossible to get across it if in a wheelchair on needing a walker. Still lots of snow in the yard there – but it really is going down.
I don’t know what kind of Hawk this is, but have asked on the Manitoba Breeding Bird Atlas on Facebook. The male flew over, mated with the female on the post and then he flew over to my big Elm tree to perch. That was quick – I got an answer already. These are Merlin. I looked them up online at All About Birds and the sound is certainly them.
