When I started working at the Y almost 14 years ago, it was a part time job for me – just meant to cover the gap between my part time salary at a government job and my expenses. Five and a half years later, I retired from the government job and went full-time at the Y. My pension from the government job then covered the gap between the Y salary and my expenses.
Now it is time to retire from my Y job and I have set the date as the end of May.
I am currently collecting the pension from my old government job and the Canada pension and will now add the Y pension to that. Unfortunately, this still leaves a gap between what is coming in and what is going out, so I have to find something to cover that gap now.
It would be nice if I could be retired and not have to work – but I calculated in advance and see that things would be pretty much the same if I stayed at the Y until I was 65 before retiring. I’m not that far off 65, so figured I might as well make changes now. A part-time job should cover the gap nicely so I’ll at least be semi-retired now. 🙂 I am even looking into starting up an online store.
I will now have more time to stay home with Chester. He is a senior dog with health issues that are currently under control with meds. I don’t like leaving him alone for much of the day while I go to work, and am looking forward to shorter days of work with a part time job. We will now be able to take our walks along the Red River whenever we want to go and that will probably mean more than once a day.
I am also looking forward to spending time in my yard/garden. Instead of rushing through my chores on weekends, I will be able to spend more time on them during the week. I may even get some day times viewing on Africam.
I made my announcement on Facebook a few days ago, using my image from Bitstrips to get everyone’s attention.

Chester and Jewel must have their own mental calendars too – even if they didn’t know exactly – yet they’d have sensed it from your body-language. One month doesn’t sound very far off…especially when you’ve waited for so long.

Yes – the month will go fast and I am sure you are right that they both know that something is up. 🙂
Thanks for your comment.

They know more than we credit them with – perhaps their senses are more evolved than ours.
