Africam – Jon Oliver

Anyone who has been reading my blog for even a short time is aware of my addiction for Africam as well any and all critters (wild or pets).  If you follow Africam yourself as well, you will probably have already heard of Jon Oliver’s death earlier this week.

Today Africam released their remembrance of Jon.

In Remembrance of Jon Oliver

Africam are sad to announce that Jon Oliver, CEO of Africam, passed away on Sunday the 8th of June.

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”
Mitch Albom

If you mention the word “Africam” in a sentence, somewhere in there the name Jon Oliver is sure to be mentioned. Jon represented what Africam stood for and dedicated his life to bring the beauty of the African bush and its wildlife to millions of people across the globe.

After a successful corporate career in IT, Jon wanted to take time out and his bags were packed for Ireland. A day before he left Campbell Scott asked Jon to help him with something regarding Africam and the bug bit him….hard.

For the next 8 years Jon was the leading force in making Africam what it is today. His relentless and meticulous work ethic was only overshadowed by his love for wildlife and the bush. Those who ever had the privilege of spending a night with Jon drinking some red wine around the fire would know that his passion and relationship for the Africam community ran deep. The daily emails from users across the world thanking Africam for what it did put a smile on his heart and I think was the fuel that kept him going.

Jon, your plans and ideals for Africam are ingrained with the rest of the Africam team. We will make sure that your dreams for Africam are realized and will keep on bringing hours of joy to people across the world. I am sure that where ever you are the bandwidth is good and you are sitting back watching your favourite camera with a big smile on your face.

Your passing is not the end of the of your relationship with Africam, amongst the peaceful and tranquil sounds of the African bush your legacy will be remembered with every sunrise. Sunrises represent happiness, hope and joy………..something you brought to millions of people every day.

RIP big Jon………you are a legend and will be truly missed.
