The Assiniboine Park Zoo has several big cats on display. I have never been thrilled with any of the accommodations for these cats though.
Much money was donated to enlarge the Tiger home and this much larger enclosure is now open when I was at the zoo. I only saw one Tiger in the new area and a couple more in the old enclosure.
The older Tiger enclosure has much better picture taking opportunities than the new larger one, but the new one has so much room for playing (which is what the one below is doing with a very large ball).
The Asian Lions enclosure is much too small for these boys and I have no idea if this is under review for plans to increase their area or not. I only saw one Lion while I was there.
The Cougars are also in a very small area and I have heard nothing about changes for them either.
The Snow Leopards have had their area increased by opening up 2 tiny areas to give them a ‘not quite as tiny area’, but still much too small for these animals.
The renovations done over the last few years were paid for by donations and fundraisings and I hope enough more can be raised so that the big cats can benefit with more space to move around.
