A Hawthorne Tree has grown in my yard for longer than I have lived here (which is 30 years) and it wasn’t a young tree when I got here. The last few years though, it has been looking a little worse each year. I cut the dead branches from it and the next year there is more dead.
This year we were down to 2 main branches and one of them was dead. My plans were to cut that branch off and give the last one a chance at some life yet since it was still looking pretty good.
Then we had the high winds and heavy rains that turned to snow. I woke up yesterday morning (which was a beautiful morning) to find that the good branch had broken off and the tips of it were right on one of my living room windows. It must have come down during the night when I was sound asleep, but I’m still surprised I didn’t hear anything.
Since I had the afternoon off work yesterday, I went out with my pruning saw and started cutting.
Luckily, the window was ok and I cut the branch up enough to get it away from the window for further cutting. The dead branch and trunk is still left standing and is a bit too much for my pruning saw though.
I will have to see if anyone wants it for firewood and is willing to cut the rest down to take it away.

Must have been hard work but well done,it certainly needed doing.Did Chester help or did he supervise/ Mary and Benji

Chester was helping in thoughts only Mary. He was in the back yard chasing shadows and recovering from his bath at the time.
