Paddlers or Rowers

Not far from home is the Manitoba Rowing Club.  I often see rowers on the river and lately, I often see (what I know now) are paddlers.  I always assumed they were pretty much the same, since they were in a boat and had an oar (or paddle).

Some time ago I took a picture of a couple of rowers and sent it to the Manitoba Rowing Club facebook page.  They thanked me and told me the names of the rowers.  Then, a few weeks ago I took a picture of a couple of paddlers and also sent it to the Manitoba Rowing Club facebook page.

That was when they told me that these were not rowers – they were paddlers, which is an entirely different thing.  Ooops

Thinking about it  – it makes sense, but I still think they are similar enough that both could be done from one facility.

Click here to see the rowing picture I sent them with the rowers.

Below is the paddling picture that I sent the rowing club.

If anyone knows these girls, let me know.  They might want a copy of the picture and I would be pleased to let them have one.

They are obviously using paddles and not oars, but I just assumed they would also belong to the Winnipeg Rowing Club.  I guess there is probably a Winnipeg Paddling Club that is also now near me because I don’t recall seeing paddlers out here much before.

So – this morning there were a bunch of paddlers out on the Red  River.

There are several different types of paddling going on here, but it looks like all paddles and no oars at least.

Both the paddling and the rowing look like great exercise – but I think I’ll stick to walking.  🙂
