Dragonflies

One of the most common critters at Fort Whyte Alive on my last visit were Dragonflies.  These are very welcome critters due to the large numbers of Mosquitoes (which actually exceeded the number of Dragonflies).

The helpful Dragonflies were very busy working on the number of Mosquitoes, but I still managed to come home with a few bites.

It is not easy to get a decent picture of a flying Dragonfly – so I snapped a few dozen pictures as I was in the middle of a few dozen Dragonflies.  I just pointed the camera in the general direction of the critters and hoped for the best.  Most of the pictures were useless, but I did manage a few where you can actually see the Dragonfly.

I didn’t say they were good pictures – but you can almost tell that they are Dragonflies.  🙂

Many years ago I was at the right place at the right time to see several Dragonfly Nymphs come out of the water and transform into the familiar Dragonfly.  I thought I had taken pictures, but can not find them at this time.
