I don’t think I’m the only one who puts things off longer than necessary – but this is my story.
My mailbox has been at the door for many years, but the the last several months, the lid has been hard to lift up, requiring 2 hands most of the time – one to lift and the other to hold the mailbox to prevent it from coming off.
I didn’t want to get a new mailbox, since they are stopping home delivery here and I don’t know how much longer I will be getting it without having to go to a community box. Much of the city is already off the home delivery – so it won’t be long.
I remember thinking that I should put some WD-40 on it quite some time ago, but never seemed to have the time.
After finding the box off one of the hooks one more time after the mailman must have struggled with it, I finally brought it inside a couple of days ago to try the WD-40 to see if it would work.
The WD-40 worked even better than I thought it would and the lid now opens and closes smoothly. So, I cleaned the box up and put a new No Flyers sign on it. I put my first No Flyers sign up a few years ago after getting tired of picking up all the flyers and walking directly to the recycle bin to dispose of them – what a waste of paper!
I put the mailbox back up again and I am sure the mailman is much happier with the way it opens. Now I can’t hear when he is opening it though, since it screeched while being forced open before I fixed it.
Sometimes it is just the simple things in life that give pleasure. 🙂
