The Polar Bears were having so much fun in the fresh snow we had overnight. I took lots of pictures and a short video while watching them.
The Journey to Churchill exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo is such a natural place for these big guys. There is no pacing as is often seen in zoo animals – they just go about a normal type of activity and in this case – playing while searching for food that was hidden all over the exhibit.
The zoo isn’t perfect yet and many of the other critters do pace – including the little Arctic Foxes that are part of the Journey to Churchill, but ended up in an enclosure that is too small for these active little guys.
The bear in many of the pictures and the only one in the video is a pretty dirty one. Hopefully he or she gets in for a swim soon to get cleaned up.
Here are the pictures of the Polar Bears. I enjoyed watching them playing and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
These pictures and the video were all taken through glass – some outside and some inside (where my camera fogged up). There are a few pictures where you can see reflections from inside also, but these are the best I could do. 🙂
You should be able to click on the pictures to see larger sizes if you like.
I am really looking forward to my own journey to Churchill when I head north late in the fall to see the Polar Bears in their own natural environment.
Yikes – just had something scary happen. I got a notice from You Tube that I had a copyright claim filed again me on this video. I hadn’t noticed it, but there was a song playing in the background at the Tundra Grill Restaurant where I was taking pictures and the video. The song was quiet and there was other background noises, so I thought nothing of it. I had to remove the song, which now leaves most of the video silent.
