Just like when I was almost retired and got to the day when I could count the days left to work on one hand, the countdown is now very close to the day when I no longer have two residences to pay for and look after. Today is July 28th and on August 1st, the new owner takes possession of the house.
I feel relieved and yet still very stressed. What if there is a problem that delays the transfer? It is a very old house and something could happen. I am going over every day or every 2nd day to check up on things, but that may not prevent a problem from happening.
My lawyer offers a insurance type thing, where I pay $39.00 (if I want to) that will cover their time if a problem arises. They say that there is a 1 in 5 chance of something happening to delay the transfer – so 4 out of 5 go through without problem. Their hourly fees if there is a problem is quite high, so I decided to pay the extra – just in case. Of course, that just covers the lawyer’s fees, so I will still be stressed until I actually have the money in my hands and all is settled.
If there is a problem, I am sure I would hear about it on the 1st or the 2nd of August though – so we are still down to counting on one hand. 🙂 After that it is just waiting for the lawyers to do their things.
My debt is growing (causing more stress) because I am spending quite a bit more on 2 residences and related expenses than what I am receiving from my pensions. It will be such a relief to just pay for one place and have all the bills caught up. My bank has allowed extra on my Line of Credit with them to keep me going until the money does arrive though.
In the meantime, I am walking and one of my favourite places to walk is Fort Whyte Alive – so that is where I went yesterday morning.
The Pelicans were quite a distance from me, so the pictures are not as clear as I would like, but they were busy feeding and were fun to watch.
In a couple of the pictures you can see a full pouch, as I snapped just as they got a fish.
Tomorrow I will show you more pictures from my walk.
