It hasn’t actually begun – but it is close now. I am at a hotel near the airport in order to avoid having to get up at 4 am to head to the airport. Instead I will rise at 5 am and get ready while waiting for my short ride to the airport with the shuttle at 5:45 am.
It seems I have to leave before breakfast is served – but I can pick up some fruit in the lobby or grab a breakfast to go. They will be serving a light breakfast on the plane, but I normally eat more than a light breakfast, so will probably pick up some fruit. I did bring a banana to have anyway. 🙂
The weather for Churchill is forecast for tomorrow to be +1C with light snow. Unfortunately no sunshine, which would be nice for pictures – but maybe this is better for sightings. 🙂
I am at the Hampton Inn by Hilton and it is quite a nice room. I got a good price through CAA, which also helps.
The king size bed makes the room look smaller than it actually is.
I went downstairs to look around at the fitness centre and salt pool and overheard a guy talking about being a wildlife photographer. I don’t know if he would be going to Churchill for a 1 day trip or if he just returned from a longer trip. It would be interesting to have a professional photographer come along. He seemed to have a captive audience, so I tried not to seem too obvious that I was eavesdropping and didn’t stay long. They did mention at the desk that a flight had just returned so I suspect he has just returned from a few days up there. I don’t think too many professionals would go all the way there for just 1 day.
