Spring is here – the snow is gone and the birds are back in town. Well – Oak Hammock Marsh isn’t actually “in” town, but it is north of town and many of the birds flew right over. Many of them may have even stopped for a rest on the rivers or little lakes in town.
Although the sun wasn’t shining today, I had nothing else on my calendar for the day and it was a warm day – so off I went.
As I got out of my car in the parking lot, a Kildeer was there to greet me – so he (or she) was my first photo of the day.

I started my walk through the marsh and found a nice variety of birds.
Red-winged Blackbird Robin
The Red-winged Blackbirds were everywhere and managed to get in quite a few photos. The Yellow-headed Blackbirds were a pleasant surprise for me, since I hadn’t seen any of them in many years.
Canada Geese Canada Goose Northern Shoveler
I left the building area and marsh walks for a walk in the north area of the conservation area. On the drive I saw this hawk flying.
I will update here when I find out what this was.
Of course I found a couple more birds and one little (and very cooperative) critter to take photos of while walking.
Yellow-headed Blackbird Canada Goose 13 Lined Ground Squirrel
That squirrel is so cute Mavis and loving the birds..so colourful.

Thanks Sue is was a good day for a walk there and the little ground squirrel was extremely cooperative. He stayed still while I walked around him to get different views. 🙂
