The last time I was at the wetlands, I could see some of the ducks and geese dying – probably due to the Avian Influenza which was a problem last year during migration. I did not post any photos or write a blog about it at the time because I found it very upsetting. The dead ones didn’t bother me as much as the ones that were still alive, and obviously suffering. I avoided both the wetlands and Sardis Park/pond where there were many more sick & dying birds. I know the dead birds were picked up and tested, but I haven’t heard anything about the results yet.
I didn’t have any problems at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve or along the Vedder River Trail, so those were the places I hung out. I did go to Sardis Park/Pond a couple of days ago and all seemed to be fine then – which is why I decided to head back to the Cheam Lake Wetlands for today’s walk.
It was a beautiful day and very few birds were around – they might have been out feeding somewhere. But I did take some photos. As always you can see the photos better if you click on one and scroll through them in a larger size.

Picture #5 is stunning! I love the leaf covered path through the trees with the sunlight at the end of the trail. I could gaze at that all day.

Thanks Mary – yes, I like that view too and stopped walking to take the photo right away.

I still have 80+ miles left on John Muir. I’ve done the Kungsleden twice – first in 2018 that took 50 days and then in 2021 that took 31 days. It’s a beautiful trail with amazing Aurora Borealis (what’s the plural? Borealises or Boreali?). Enjoy it!! I see Mavis has done it once. When I finish John Muir, I’ll return to finish the Tanzanian Trail for the second time. I’ll miss you both!

Thanks for letting us know Mary – hopefully we finish close enough to each other that we can plan another walk together.

Completed the John Muir Trail late last night, or early this morning, depending on your circadian rhythms and time zone! Ready to step out with you today, or tomorrow, or whatever it is, on the Kungsleden Trail, Mavis! I will see you out there! Stay warm, stay safe! Cheers, Stumblebum
