Lots to See at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve

After spending most of my life in Winnipeg (commonly called Winterpeg), the amazing weather in British Columbia is such a bonus.

I wandered around at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve a couple of days ago and was thrilled to see that the Great Blue Herons have picked their nests and their mates. I don’t believe that eggs have been laid yet – but it is possible. Otherwise, the laying will begin very soon.

Of course, I saw more than the Herons too. As usual, the photos are cropped & resized to fit here, so if you click on one and scroll through the photos, you will see the full photos.

Soon the leaves will begin to open on the trees and seeing the Herons up there will be much more difficult. The areas closer to the nests are blocked off for the safety of the Herons, chicks and/or eggs.

I also made a stop at Sardis Park/Pond with another walk.

I didn’t get a lot of variety of bird shots there, and decided to take a little walk to a trail that was not far from Sardis Park/Pond. I’ve looked from the road as I drove past quite often, but decided it was time to actually check it out. It is very short, but since it is directly across the street from an elementary school, it may have been set up there for the children to enjoy some nature.

It actually took me longer to walk to this trail than it took me to walk around it. But is a very peaceful little spot even though it is right on a major road.
