This is the way to start a new year. Happy New Year everyone! After several days of rain, the sun finally emerged again and it was a perfect day to get out and walk.

Rain is not in the forecast for tomorrow, but the next few days after, it is probably going to be raining again.
When I was walking along the creek and looking at the creek, I suddenly saw 2 large birds flying – almost right at me. I stopped and watched as one (a Great Blue Heron) flew off to my left and the other (a hawk or eagle – as I didn’t get a good look) flew off to my right. It all happened too fast to even think about getting a photo.
Love the photos as usual but that bald eagle photo is just spectacular. I’ve never heard of a bufflehead duck or seen one. Pretty! It looks like a great walk. Is that near where you live?

Thanks Mary. I actually saw the Bald Eagle earlier, but the photos I took had too many branches between us and I ended up deleting them. When I was getting close to finishing my walk, he had re-positioned and I got a few much better photos. 🙂 The Vedder River is about a 20 minute drive to get to the main parking lot, from my apartment – but there are several more parking lots to spread out the vehicles. The Bufflehead Duck is fairly common, but normally we just one (or occasionally 2) during mating time.

Up north (comparatively) in Connecticut. Drove even farther north for a couple of visits, then back here. First sunny day today, so I got out for a walk. Nothing like the scenery there, though!
Do the Eagles and Blue Herons play badly together in advance of the problem you described in the spring, i.e., eagles raiding the herons’ nests? Maybe they got word you’ve been talking smack about them on your blog … lucky you ducked (no pun intended), never mind getting a picture!
I’ll go log my measly steps now. No chance for late-night exercise here visiting. Safe travels, all! Cheers, Stumblebum

I don’t think the Eagles would take down a full-grown Heron, but I really don’t know. Hope you are enjoying your visits in Connecticut.

Not much joy up north, I’m afraid. North for me, anyway! Back in Maryland, waiting for a wintry weather mix to mess things up tomorrow. You have over a dozen miles on me, so I will need to put in some extra effort to catch up. You have those lovely trails, and i, well, don’t! I also did not spend years in Winnipeg, so I have no complaints! Hope you and yours are staying well up there in Chilliwack! Cheers, Stumblebum

I haven’t seen any snow up north here yet Tim. The forecast says the temperature might go as low as -2C some time today though. So much better that -40C. Yes, I do have wonderful trails to walk here and I do enjoy them.
