Day 3 at Riding Mountain National Park

Today I will be heading home and I was awake and out before sunrise. It was early enough that I thought I’d be able to get better sunrise photos at Whirlpool Lake than I did yesterday.

I got a sneak peak from the road before the turnoff to the lake.

Once I was at the lake, I took a few bird photos as there wasn’t much colour in the sky yet.

  • Canada Goose
  • Mallard Duck
  • Might be Lessor Yellowlegs

From then on I watched the sky. It is amazing how quickly the sky changes with the rising sun.

Normally at this time I would have gone looking for more critters – but for some reason, I had not slept well the last 2 nights and I decided to just head for home. My one stop along the way was at the viewpoint on #19.

  • I think this is a Red-tail Hawk – he was enjoying the view also

I hope to get back out there around the end of May or early June.
