On my drive out to Lockport the other day, I saw a hot air balloon floating in the sky. I remembered the day I finally had a ride in that balloon. I say finally – because it took several bookings before the weather was just right, but it was worth the wait. After that thought,… Continue reading A Walk Around Kildonan Park

Morning Stroll at Fort Whyte Alive
Living in the middle of a city, I have found that I need to spend time in nature as often as I can. Listening to critter sounds is what I need, instead of traffic or people yelling or sirens. I like to just stroll along casually, listening to or watching the birds and any other… Continue reading Morning Stroll at Fort Whyte Alive
Ducks at Fort Whyte Alive
Yesterday, I showed you the Pelicans at Fort Whyte Alive and today it is time for some ducks. It was a beautiful morning for a stroll and most of the critters were fairly co-operative. More to come tomorrow.
A Little Walk
Yesterday, I had absolutely nothing scheduled except for laundry, so after the laundry was done, I went for a walk along the Seine River. I just brought my little camera that does’t have a lot of zoom, since it fits into my pocket. First thing I found was on a tree trunk just behind my… Continue reading A Little Walk
A Couple of Hours at Fort Whyte Alive – part 2
Trips to Fort Whyte Alive are always nice. It is on the outskirts of Winnipeg, but you feel immersed right in nature. There are lakes, ponds or puddles, pastures, bush, a treehouse, bird feeding stations and a lot of birds and other critters. It is a great place to just get away without actually leaving… Continue reading A Couple of Hours at Fort Whyte Alive – part 2
Buffalo, Birds, Flowers and More
I had a whole mess of chores to do yesterday and I got them all done! So, today I went back to Fort Whyte to walk and take pictures. 🙂
Goslings!!! and a Duck
I have seen reports of goslings at both the Assiniboine Park Zoo and at Fort Whyte Alive, but I haven’t seen any of those ones. This morning though I saw my first goslings of the year! It is an absolutely beautiful morning after a full day of rain yesterday. The sun is shining and everything… Continue reading Goslings!!! and a Duck
Wood Ducks and a Surprise in the School Grounds
I don’t know if this is the same Wood Duck family that Chester and I saw several days ago on the Red River, or not. If it is the same family, it looks like 3 ducklings are missing but they are sure growing. Maybe the others were still foraging on the ground and I just… Continue reading Wood Ducks and a Surprise in the School Grounds
Wood Ducks
We’re having a beautiful morning here. The sun is shining, the temperature is 21C and there is a slight breeze. Chester and I watched a Wood Duck and her 7 ducklings swimming on the Red River. They stayed nicely in line, so I could get them all in my pictures.
More Ducklings!
I have hardly seen the Wood Ducks around this year and wondered if they had found another place to nest this year – but this morning Chester and I were rewarded with a sighting of the Wood Duck and her 10 adorable ducklings. 🙂
